Bij een acuut ontstane pijn in de bijbal moet, vooral bij jongeren, een torsio testis worden uitgesloten.
Ga bij volwassenen uit van een infectieuze oorzaak van de epididymitis, te weten een soa of urineweginfectie.
Neem voor antibiotische behandeling een urinemonster af voor kweek of, bij vermoeden van een soa, PCR-onderzoek.
