In Children Living in Transition: Helping Homeless and Foster Care Children and Families, Cheryl Zlotnick compiled the stories of the frontline workers from the Center for the Vulnerable Child (CVC) who help children and family in homeless shelters or foster care. These professionals, who range from the medical, nursing, mental health, case management, outreach and social service professions, seek to provide insight into working with children and families living in transitional situations. They do so by relying on empirical research, observation, and personal experience. The compilation of chapters is an attempt to understand the difficulty that these families, children and workers face but also an effort to find answers to the following question: why has there been an increase in the number of children placed in transitional situations and are there some institutional changes, such as early intervention, that can be done to improve the situation. …
