In Ghosts in the Schoolyard, Eve L. Ewing critically analyzes the large-scale school closings that rocked Chicago’s southside in the early-to-mid 2010s. Ewing grapples with several concepts such as the role racism played in the school closures, the notion of a failing school and its impacts on members of the school community, and the importance of institutions such as schools in Black communities.
