In Do the Crime, Do The Time: Juvenile Criminals and Adult Justice in the American Court System, Mays and Ruddell examine how the juvenile justice system has evolved over time, in particular discussing the role transfers of juveniles to adult courts have had on the system and public perception of juvenile crime in America. The authors note the differences between juveniles and adults, including maturity levels, and mental and emotional capacity. They begin the book by looking at the historical development of juvenile courts in relation to changing attitudes towards crime over time and establish six major themes in the book: …
