Het belang van reflectief ouderschap

Samenvatting

Dit artikel gaat over de consequenties van de verschillende vormen van onveilige gehechtheid voor het ouderschap. Met name wat onveilige gehechtheid betekent voor het vermogen van ouders om te reflecteren over hun relatie met hun kind, over zichzelf als ouder en over de binnenwereld van hun kind. Ook wordt ingegaan op de verschillende manieren om in ouderbegeleiding het reflectievermogen ofwel mentaliseringsvermogen van ouders te verbeteren en waarom het nodig is om in de ouderbegeleiding ook de relatie tussen ouders en behandelaar goed te monitoren. Denken over gevoelens en voelen over gedachtes zijn capaciteiten die geleerd worden in de vroegste relatie tussen ouder en kind. Gelukkig kunnen de verstoringen die daarin ontstaan tot op zekere hoogte gerepareerd worden in latere relaties, met name in een hulpverleningsrelatie.
