Jane Ribbens McCarthy’s study of young people’s experiences of loss and bereavement is the first book-length review of the academic and professional literatures on this important topic. In addition to a comprehensive assessment of existing knowledge in the field, it also includes original analysis of interview data and extended discussion of some key theoretical, methodological and practical issues. As such it represents an attempt to throw light on what McCarthy believes is still a “hidden issue,” in ways that will be of immense value both to other youth researchers and to practitioners working with young people. …
