Narratieve coherentie over de intieme partner tijdens de zwangerschap: relatie met kindermishandeling en PTSS-symptomen

Samenvatting

Kindermishandeling is gerelateerd aan de verstoring van de narratieve coherentie over hechte relaties. In deze pilotstudie introduceren we een kort, nieuw meetinstrument voor narratieve coherentie over de intieme partner en hierin hebben we onderzocht of symptomen van een posttraumatische stressstoornis (PTSS) de relatie tussen kindermishandeling en narratieve coherentie over de partner tijdens de zwangerschap medieert. De deelnemersgroep bestond uit 101 etnisch diverse, zwangere vrouwen met een laag inkomen (62 % leefde onder de armoedegrens; 37 % Latijns-Amerikaans, 22 % Afrikaans-Amerikaans, 20 % wit, 22 % anders), met een hoge score voor kindermishandeling. Zij gaven een Five-Minute Speech Sample van hun partner (d.w.z. de vader van de baby) en deze is door twee onafhankelijke codeurs beoordeeld op narratieve coherentie en prenatale geuite emoties (zoals negatief en warm affect) over de partner. De deelnemers hebben ook gestandaardiseerde vragenlijsten ingevuld over kindermishandeling, steun van de partner en prenatale symptomen van PTSS en depressie. Narratieve coherentie over de partner via de Five-Minute Speech Sample laat convergente validiteit zien met steun van de partner en geuite emoties over de partner. PTSS-symptomen mediëren de relatie tussen kindermishandeling en prenatale narratieve coherentie over de partner, maar symptomen van depressie niet. De Five-Minute Speech Sample biedt een korte en valide strategie voor het meten van narratieve coherentie over de partner. PTSS-symptomen en narratieve coherentie over de partner zijn allebei mogelijke interventiedoelen voor het bevorderen van gezond psychisch en relationeel functioneren tijdens de zwangerschap.
