Samenvatting

Professioneel redeneren is het proces van systematische besluitvorming, gebaseerd op een aanwijsbaar professioneel referentiekader, waarbij gebruik gemaakt wordt van zowel subjectieve als objectieve gegevens en dat dient om het therapieproces te plannen, uit te voeren en te evalueren; zowel vooraf, tijdens als na afloop van dit proces. Ergotherapie is een two-body practice: het professioneel redeneren van de ergotherapie baseert zich op het redeneren vanuit een empirisch-analytisch referentiekader en het redeneren vanuit een interpretatief referentiekader. Binnen deze perspectieven worden verschillende vormen van redeneren onderscheiden. In dit hoofdstuk komen narratief redeneren, interactief redeneren, procedureel redeneren, pragmatisch redeneren, conditioneel redeneren, ethisch en wetenschappelijk redeneren aan bod. Dat professioneel redeneren ook vanuit een kritisch emancipatorisch perspectief mogelijk is, laat de paragraaf over politiek redeneren zien. Professionaliteit veronderstelt een professioneel oordeel en beargumenteerde besluitvorming. Professionele besluitvorming kan gezien worden als het eindresultaat van professioneel redeneren. Bij besluitvorming worden het perspectief van de cliënt, het perspectief van de therapeut en het perspectief van bewijs afgewogen en met elkaar geïntegreerd. Professioneel redeneren en reflecteren worden in de literatuur vaak gekoppeld. Een ergotherapeut die goed kan reflecteren is in staat om alledaagse praktijksituaties in leermomenten om te zetten. Dat gebeurt door afstand te nemen van de eigen acties tijdens de situatie (reflection in action) of na de situatie (reflection on action) en zichzelf vragen te stellen over wat er gebeurde en wat de eigen overwegingen daarbij waren.
