Judith Davidson’s book Sexting: Gender and Teens describes how the recent technological phenomenon, sexting, is the means by which teenagers seek to develop and interpret three significant components of the “human curriculum of sexuality”: gender, sexuality, and intimate relationships. Davidson is particularly concerned about the gender-based double standards that exist between female and male teenagers’ sexting behaviors and motivations for sexting. By conducting focus-group interviews with teenagers and adults, Davidson illuminates the personal and social challenges digital sexual communication presents twenty-first century teenagers. Davidson’s research and book demonstrates that there is a strong relationship between the teenage human curriculum of sexuality and digital sexual communication. …
