Samenvatting

Omdat het endodontium en het parodontium in nauw contact met elkaar staan, zullen afwijkingen in de gezondheid van het endodontium hun weerslag hebben op de toestand van het parodontium en vice versa. De invloed van parodontitis op het endodontium is meestal gering, behalve in zeer vergevorderde stadia. Afwijkingen van het endodontium kunnen daarentegen duidelijk waarneembare parodontale afwijkingen (pockets) verzoorzaken. In dit kader onderscheiden we bij de diagnostiek en behandeling van deze parodontale laesies die van louter parontale oorsprong, die van louter endodontische origine en die van gecombineerde oorsprong.
