Samenvatting

De kinder- en adolescentengeneeskunde verschilt in vele opzichten van de geneeskunde bij volwassenen. Kinderen zijn in de groei, ze zijn voortdurend in ontwikkeling en dit gebeurt in samenhang met hun sociale omgeving. In de kindergeneeskunde speelt het gezin dan ook een belangrijke rol. Bij jonge kinderen geldt dat ze nog volledig afhankelijk zijn van ouders en verzorgers. Naarmate ze ouder worden, neemt die afhankelijkheid af en moeten ze zelfstandig worden. Werkt de kinderarts of kinderpsycholoog bij jonge kinderen vooral met de ouders, naarmate kinderen ouder worden verschuift dit van werken met kind en ouders naar werken met de adolescent, rekening houdend met de ouders.
